Zonta Club of Frederick

The Zonta Club of Frederick

was chartered in 1930.  It is part of Zonta International, District 3, Area 3.  Our membership represents some of the most distinguished  business and professional careers, including: certified public accountants, lawyers, social workers, artists, medical practitioners, and business owners.

What is Zonta

The founding of Zonta International occupies a unique moment in women's history. Established in Buffalo, New York, USA in 1919, early members were among the first generation of college- educated women, the first generation of North American women to vote, and a part of the growing, though still comparatively small, legion of women entering the workforce. Over the decades, Zonta International has grown into a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women. There are nearly 30,000 members in nearly 1,200 clubs in 67 countries all over the world. The name Zonta is derived from a Sioux Indian word meaning "honest and trustworthy."  Zontians actively work to improve the status of women, both internationally and locally.  Zonta International has worked as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with the United Nations since the U.N. was established in 1945.

Zonta is Unique

Zonta differs from other service clubs because it offers an environment where women of diverse professions and ages can join together in membership, fundraising, networking and hands-on service projects to benefit the local, regional and  international communities.

International Convention

Zonta International has just held our   63rd Zonta International Convention in Nice, France, the capital of the French Riviera,  2–6 July 2016. Convention was a time for us to connect with one another, celebrate our achievements, elect new international leaders and vote on the programs and projects that we will support in the 2016-2018 Biennium.

When We Meet

The Zonta Club of Frederick meets on the second Monday of each month for a dinner meeting. For further information about the Zonta Club of Frederick contact: president@zontafrederick.org

“Zonta empowers women worldwide and helps make them become self-sufficient.  We envision a world in which women’s rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential, where women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with  men, where no woman lives in fear of violence.”
